Sunday Platform – Nori Rost: “Imagine There’s No Gender: A Story in Three Chapters”
November 7, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
In this platform, we will explore, through songs and words, the dynamics between gender and oppression, gender violence, as well as the meaning and social significance of how we perceive ourselves to be. Each November 20, people around the world commemorate the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to memorialize all the people who had been murdered in the previous 12 months due to their perceived gender identity. Currently, there are already over 300 folx murdered because of their gender expression. It is more important than ever to critically reflect on the role of gender in our society.

Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day. While contributions are always appreciated, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
