Sunday Platform with Anne Klaeysen: Revisiting Justice January
January 5, 2025 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Seven years ago, when I was clergy leader at the New York Society, I gave a platform address called Justice January. This January the same person who was then president will be returning to the White House, so I am returning to this topic. As I noted then, justice is “an idea that has taken center stage in ethics, philosophy, religion, law, and politics for millennia.” I asked, “What distinguishes justice from other moral and political ideas?” Now I wonder whether justice in this country has become so politicized as to be meaningless. What does it mean when we say that Ethical Culture has a social justice mission? Explore with me ways to fulfill that mission.

About Sunday Platform
Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
