By March 1, 2021March 5th, 2021No Comments

Join The American Slavery Project for the next of The Reverberation Plays, a five-part audio drama series with soundscapes and minimal visuals that dramatize how Black History isn’t an event, it’s a legacy. Each premiere is accompanied by a scholar-led conversation illuminating the themes of each play. All events will be streamed with a live talkback following the show. Phylicia Rashad also returns to direct our last premiere, “Second Sight.”

March 5: “yOU CaN TAke ouT a PArEnT pLUs lOan”
Written by Camille Thomas and Directed by Judy Tate, performed by Lynnette R. Freeman

Camille Thomas, a creator and activist, navigates a predominantly white institution in pursuit of an undergraduate degree through rising tuition costs, familial expectations, and her own personal aspirations. This one-woman show merges monologues, slam poetry, images and character defining moments from her past to analyze the racket that is student debt and how it affects students of color.

Post-play conversation: The Black Educational Experience with Dorothy A. Brown, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Law at Emory University and Author of “The Whiteness of Wealth” and McTate Stroman II, College Financial Aid Advisor. Moderated by Judy Tate
