Metro NY Ethical Societies Push for Passage of the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA)

By December 22, 2021No Comments

Ethical Societies in New York State have been invited to reach out to their representatives and urge them to pass the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA). The bill would empower the state to make polluters pay for the toxins and greenhouse gases they release into our air, potentially raising $10 billion annually to invest into communities — especially marginalized communities — to reduce local emissions, reduce the burden of energy costs, provide cash and job training to workers, school districts, and municipalities — and create thousands of green jobs.

At our December 5th Sunday Platform, attendees were provided with the information about the bill, contact information for the Governor, state Senate majority leader, and Speaker of the Assembly along with instructions a template for writing letters to tell all three how important it is to NYS residents that they pass this bill.

For more information and to participate, Society members and members of the public are invited to email Jone Johnson Lewis, Leader at Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, at jone.lewis@rysec.org.
