Join the League of Women Voters of The City of New York for this next session of their “At Home” online speakers series!
Whitney Young was one of the most celebrated and controversial leaders of the civil rights era. During the 1960’s he was the head of the National Urban League. Like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. he fought for the rights of African Americans. Through his connections with Fortune 500 CEOs, governor, senators, and presidents, he was one of the few civil rights leaders who was able to access employment, education, housing and healthcare for African Americans, other minorities and others in need. Young’s legacy and influence changed the lives of many young Black Americans.

About Our Speaker:
Dr. Marcia Cantarella is the daughter of Whitney Young, Jr. She has been an associate dean at Hunter College, an assistant dean at Princeton University, part of the dean’s staff at New York University’s College of Arts and Science, and a vice president of student affairs at Metropolitan College of New York. Before her educational work she was director in public affairs and then in marketing at Avon Products.
