At Home With the League of Women Voters Presents: The Public School Crisis During COVID-19 w/ Adrienne Austin

Education Advocate, Marian Bott, will interview Adrienne Austin, Acting Deputy Chancellor at NYC’s Department of Education. They will discuss the DOE’s plans to safely open schools this fall and how it will accommodate necessary resources among students with special educational needs.

Adrienne Austin is the Acting Deputy Chancellor at NYC’s DOE. She leads the DOE’s work to empower families and communities, while increasing the public’s understanding of key policies to deepen support for them. Before joining the division, Adrienne served in DOE’s Office of General Counsel, where she provided legal counsel and held legal seminars for school administrators. Prior to DOE, she worked in criminal justice policy at the Vera Institute of Justice.
Marian Bott is an Education Advocate who works with Albany legislators to ensure learning resources are allocated to students with learning and developmental disabilities. Between 1981-2001 she was a member of the Education Priorities Panel (EPP), a coalition of parent and civic organizations that was instrumental in reallocating funds administrative areas directly into classroom services during and after New York City’s 1976 recession.
