Haiti in the National Spotlight: ‘Communities Rallying Against Hate: A Conversation with Psychiatrist Dr. Pierre Arty’

Join us to hear from psychiatrist and Ethical Culture Social Service Board Member Dr. Pierre Arty about his conversations with those living and working on the ground in Haiti.

Dr. Arty traveled to Haiti in August 2024 to provide psychiatric support to Housing Works employees living in the country and will return there in November.

About Pierre Arty

Pierre Richard Arty, M.D. was born in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, and was raised in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, N.Y.

He attended Columbia College of Columbia University where he graduated after completing a Pre-Medical concentration in Political Science. He later attended S.U.N.Y. Downstate Health Science Center in Brooklyn.

After completing an Internal Medicine Residency at Kings County Hospital, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he pursued a Fellowship in Addictive Medicine, followed by a second residency in Psychiatry at the same institution. He held the position of Director of the Kings County Addictive Disease Services from 2003-2004 and subsequently took on the position of Deputy Executive Director of Kings County Hospital’s Behavioral Health Department from 2004-2008. He has received numerous awards for his help in improving medical care to the East Flatbush community.

He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. With his broad knowledge base, he provides expertise in the field of psychopharmacology. He currently holds the position as Chief Psychiatric Officer for Housing Works where he provides psychiatric supervision, direct psychopharmacological treatment for adults and those with substance use disorder and oversees the Wellness program.

He is also a Board member of World Compassion Fellowship, an international humanitarian and development organization whose mission is to provide holistic development and care for the individual, the family, and the community.

Dr. Arty is a member of the Social Service Board of NYSEC and the author of the book Life and Death and the Things in Between, published in 2017 and available on Amazon.
