Ethical Theater: Narrative Medicine Short Plays with Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons

Join us for a FREE special theatrical presentation by students from the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University!

Twelve first-year medical students will be presenting 10-minute plays they developed in their Narrative Medicine elective course taught by narrative medicine faculty playwright Catherine Rogers, MFA, MS and guest lecturer theatre director Avra Sidiropoulou, PhD.

In this class, students explore ethics and empathy through the eyes of the characters they create. For students, creating characters for their plays helps them step into the shoes of others, as they will be expected to step into the shoes of their future patients. They also learn the skills of teamwork while responding to and acting in each other’s plays.
