Sunday Platform – Bart Worden: “Repairing the Harms of Structural Racism” (Online)
July 12, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Structural racism is a powerful force spread across multiple systems and institutions and is extremely pernicious and resilient. White people are the source and the sustainers of structural racism and recreate it every day when they are silent about police “protection,” seek out “good” schools, allow monetized healthcare, “integrate” neighborhoods through the displacement of gentrification…
After hundreds of years of damage are we at a tipping point that will lead to real and lasting change? Will ethical humanists join efforts to repair the damage of structural racism and help usher in a more equitable and compassionate society?

Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day. While contributions are always appreciated, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
