Sunday Platform with Nori Rost: Fat Sunday with the Rick Bogart Trio

February 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm

Free and open to the public, in-person and online!

As we celebrate Black History Month, join us for a very special Platform on the Sunday before the big New Orleans Mardi Gras festivities. The Rick Bogart Trio will join us to share in some of the traditional music of Mardi Gras and Dr. Rost will focus on the African American tradition that has developed during Mardi Gras/Carnival due to the racial exclusion of African Americans in the big parades of Mardi Gras.

It is a very rich tradition and shows a creative adaptation of one minority (African Americans), celebrating and honoring another minority (Native Americans) who gave refuge to people escaping enslavement. We will be throwing traditional Mardi Gras beads and serving King Cake after!

About Sunday Platform

Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
