Through NYSEC’s EAC, we have entered into an alliance with Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. (Stop Another Violent End), whose founder and C.E.O. Jackie Rowe-Adams, spoke at our July 25 Sunday Platform.
As the Harlem Mothers SAVE website explains, the organization works to remedy the effects of gun violence and promote ways to reduce gun deaths in their community. They educate their community, support partners and legislation for sensible gun laws, and act as advocates and spokesperson for families in their time of need after a gun incident. The organization also has a year-round program working with youth to develop community leaders.
Society Leader Dr. Nori Rost and Ethical Action Committee members Carol Van Deusen, Maggie Determann, and Donna Pang attended the Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. September monthly meeting as well as a memorial event later that month, an emotional and impactful occasion at which were present elected officials, police, and individuals who have lost someone as a result of gun violence. The event took place on the National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims, September 25. NYSEC will be represented at the Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. 15th Anniversary event, a fundraiser for that organization, on November 12.
