Vothing Rights: The Struggle To Be Counted 1619-2014 tells the story of the often brutal struggle by African Americans to obtain the unrestricted right to vote. This 35 minute documentary was written and produced by Phil Portlock and his wife Pat Sloan.

For 29 years, Phil Portlock served as a staff photographer at Metro photographing the construction of the monumental Metrorail system. A world-renowned photographer, Portlock has also produced several documentaries including, The Dunbar Legacy: Passing The Torch of Excellence 1870-2013, which traces the history of the first high school for African American students in the county. In addition to his career in photography, Portlock has been a committed social justice activist for more than 50 years. He has filmed numerous protests, rallies, and marches. His photography has enabled thousands around the world to experience firsthand events that continue to impact our lives today.
