Nori Rost: ‘The Life of Pi’ with Musical Guest Glen Roethel

By March 13, 2022No Comments

No, not the movie, the mathematical constant, which starts off with 3.14 and goes on into infinity. Because of this, March 14 is recognized as International Pi Day. So, for those math nerds and for those for whom math remains a nemesis, join us as Dr. Rost explores what pi can teach us about life and how to live it well.

Dr. Nori Rost is passionate about social justice and has been involved in social rights activism since age 17. She is an outspoken advocate for justice and equity and has received many awards and recognition for her work. Nori holds a Master of Divinity from the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well as a Certificate for Spiritual Direction from the Benet Hill Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Before joining NYSEC, Dr. Rost served as minister at the All-Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Colorado Springs for 13 years and, prior to that, was a minister with the Metropolitan Community Church for close to 20 years.

Glen Roethel is a New York-based, California-Born Contemporary Folk-Pop-Rock Singer-Songwriter-Entertainer, Accompanist, Producer, Arranger, Graphic Designer, and a Guitar-Player’s Guitarist. He tours singing his own songs with guitar, ukulele, and piano – often improvising new songs on-the-fly – and even provides custom songwriting for special events. Glen has released six original full-length CDs – most of which he produced for his own independent label, Inspireline. Folk fans will appreciate that Glen was the founder and primary songwriter, producer, arranger, and creative in the popular folk-rock harmony group, Gathering Time (now re-formed). When not performing his own music he entertains drawing from his lifetime musical curriculum: more than one thousand hit cover songs spanning the 1930s through today (with a special emphasis on the ’50s through the ’80s). Presenters have described him as “spontaneous and exciting – like 1000 tiny fun bombs going off all at once!” – so expect to have a really good time when Glen performs for you! Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest.  Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day.  While contributions are always appreciated, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public.  Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.

To view previous Sunday Platform addresses and interviews, visit our Videos page and YouTube channel.
