As many of you know, for many years Ethical NYC has had a practice of sharing weekly cash contributions with organizations who share our values. When we met in person, we would pass the collection basket and would generally get around $200 per week. This came to about $10,000 per year, shared equally between Ethical and our partner organizations.
Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, we have switched to offering online donation opportunities. To make giving simpler, we changed from having a different recipient organization weekly to having one organization per month. And, recognizing the unique demands the pandemic has placed on our partner organizations, we also decided to give the full amount to them.
Unfortunately, while we caught on quickly about meeting virtually, our online giving lagged. In fact, donations decreased by about 80 percent The amount of money contributed for all of 2021 was just above $2,000.
We want to do better in 2022 so, rather than providing the link to facilitate giving on Sundays only, starting now, we’ll include the link in our weekly and daily program announcement emails as well. Please look for it, click on it, and give. Remember, the donations link is always active; you can donate online 24/7/365. Let’s aim for a 2022 average of $1,000 a month.
