Speaker Andrea Reyes will share her journey of starting a fair trade fashion brand, becoming a fashion disruptor, and leading the NYC Fair Trade Coalition. Her personal journey began here in NYC at the Fashion Institute of Technology, took her all the way to Jinja, Uganda and back again. Learn with Andrea how she’s been able to push the sustainable fashion movement forward with integrity and the idea no one has it perfect and we can only constantly question our ethics to do better.
Andrea Reyes is an adjunct instructor at LIM College, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Baruch College. She has developed courses, “Start Your Own Fair Trade Fashion Brand,” mentors students and start-up fashion brands, and leads the NYC Fair Trade Coalition, a group of fair trade advocates composed of students, small business owners, NGO’s and community-based organizations.
Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day. While contributions are always appreciated, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
