Society Leader Emerita Dr. Anne Klaeysen joined us to explore the developments of the last seven years and what justice means moving forward after the election:
Seven years ago, when I was clergy leader at the New York Society, I gave a platform address called Justice January. This January the same person who was then president will be returning to the White House, so I am returning to this topic.
As I noted then, justice is “an idea that has taken center stage in ethics, philosophy, religion, law, and politics for millennia.” I asked, “What distinguishes justice from other moral and political ideas?” Now I wonder whether justice in this country has become so politicized as to be meaningless.
What does it mean when we say that Ethical Culture has a social justice mission? Explore with me ways to fulfill that mission.
