Performance & Talkback with Ecological Artist-in-Residence Jody Sperling and Time Lapse Dance
January 14, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Jody Sperling and Time Lapse Dance present the first of two showcase performances at the 2023 Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) conference right here at Ethical. The showcase highlights the acclaimed climate-engaged collaboration between the Society’s ‘Eco’ Arist-in-Residence, choreographer Jody Sperling and composer Matthew Burtner. This timely program has been heralded as “a visually gorgeous evening of performance” with “a deeper level to discover” (Fjord Review).
The performances feature excerpts of three works. In Wind Rose, dancers render changing atmospheric patterns palpable to sight, sound, and touch. Plastic Harvest explores the proliferation of plastic pollution. Sperling’s solo American Elm considers the relationship between trees and people.
This Saturday showcase will feature a conversation with Jody Sperling, Eco-Artist-in-Residence at The New York Society of Ethical Culture, about the work’s climate engagement.
