Sunday Platform – Spring Festival: Humanity as a Force of Nature (Hybrid)
April 3, 2022 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
In-person and online! Note: This program will begin at 11:30 in Adler Hall.
Hosted by Leader Dr. Nori Rost!
Humans can operate as a collaborative force with nature, as Nature.
We are a powerful force, and we can put our powers to good use rather than—intentionally or not—for destructive purposes. We are wonderful plants that can continue to grow and blossom for the good.
This year’s festival is part of a global celebration of the “Season for Nonviolence” that honors and celebrates the peaceful work of Mahatama (Mohandas) Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. — established in 1998 by Ayun Gandhi, Mahatama Gandhi’s grandson. Preparing for the Spring Festival has been part of the learning experience of our Young Ethical Explorers (YEE) as they’ve studied aspects of this Season for Nonviolence, which began January 30 and culminates on April 4.
Today Ethical children, families, and members lead us in an exploration of healthy ways to grow into the future. YEE will share a peace song: “Let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me,” honoring the Gandhi/King Season for Non-violence, which YEE children have been learning about: https://ethical.nyc/season-for-non-violence/
The Festival will feature eco-dance-choreographer Jody Sperling of “TimeLapse” Dance. With our focus on peace, we will envision a future that is vibrant, healthy and humane!
Notice: Only fully-vaccinated individuals are invited to attend in-person at this time.

Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings usually begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Ethical Culture philosophy. A collection basket is passed and money is shared between the Society and a charity selected for that day. While contributions are always appreciated, Sunday meetings are free and open to the public. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
