Julie C. Suk: A Century of Founding Mothers: Global Feminism and the U.S. Constitution
March 5, 2023 @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
In-person and online!
The Equal Rights Amendment was introduced one hundred years ago in Congress. Women have struggled across generations of legal and procedural barriers to overcome patriarchy in the law and to achieve authorship of our nation’s foundational legal document. This talk will discuss why and how constitutional change has been so important in the long and unfinished journey towards gender justice in the United States and in many countries around the world.
Julie C. Suk is Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law. She is the author of the books We the Women: The Unstoppable Mothers of the Equal Rights Amendment (2020)and After Misogyny: How the Law Fails Women and What to Do about It (forthcoming April 2023) and dozens of law review articles and book chapters on comparative constitutional law, equality and anti-discrimination law, procedure and processes of legal change, and gender. She is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School, where she held a Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans, and received her D.Phil. in Politics at Oxford, where she was a Marshall Scholar.
