Last Month, Society Leader Dr. Joe Chuman had an opportunity to travel to Israel to get sense of Israeli society in person and on the ground.
He met with civil society representatives to hear about their responses to the October 7 attacks, efforts at mutual aid that were organized, their attitudes toward the current government of Benjamin Netanyahu and his coalition partners, and their thoughts on the devastating war in Gaza.
At this week’s Sunday Platform, Joe shared what he learned alongside Dr. Leonard Grob, Vice President of Partners for Progressive Israel and Holocaust scholar at Fairleigh Dickinson University, whose research has led to a life-long commitment to working directly to foster peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Joe and Leonard discussed the October 7th attacks, the Israeli response, the domestic political situations in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank, and what steps could still be taken to achieve a lasting ceasefire, disempower extremists, and begin forging a path toward a two-state solution and end to the occupation.
About Sunday Platform
Sunday Platform is our most important and long-standing community event. These gatherings educate, stimulate personal growth, inspire reflection and action, and strengthen our community. Sunday meetings begin with music, followed by greetings and a talk given by a Society Leader, member, or guest. Platforms cover a variety of topics that reflect current events, pressing social issues, and Humanist philosophy. Each Sunday meeting is followed by a luncheon and social hour.
